Tilt Shift

I've been playing around yesterday with some tools that allow you to 'fake' the look and feel of a Tilt shift lens.

Lately the ability to change perspective with these lenses is frequently used to make real scenes look like toys or dioramas.

I ran through my library and tested it on a few random snapshots and this is the best I could come up with:

Mind you it was never taken with the idea of doing this sort of manipulation, so it's safe to say that it could be better if I were thinking ahead :-)

A trip on the river gave me a different view on the city. I took a ton of shots, like this one and the one I posted earlier. The different perspective was a lot of fun.

I'll have to get back to this shot in the future and straighten the horizon, I didn't really notice until I saw it in this thumbnail. (Note to self: always do a squint-test).
It's also a bit dark, so there's plenty of work on this one...

This one definitely still needs some work. For starters, the waterline is curved. I'd also like to make the cranes stand out more from the buildings in the background. The sky looks ok, but could maybe benefit from a bit more 'drama'.

What do you think can - or needs to - be done to improve this shot?

I shot this last week while walking up to a friends' office. Sometimes everything can be a fun subject for photography.

I cut it to the 16:10 aspect ratio to fit my screen and presto: instant cool wallpaper.

This version is a bit small (actually it should be perfect for an iPod Touch or iPhone wallpaper), but if you leave a comment this wallpaper can be yours for free!

Not for my budget, but a friend pre-ordered one, so he decided it would be nice to actually see the car he's paying for. :)

Geneva Motor Show - McLaren

Getting a good shot at a carshow is more difficult than you'd expect. There's crowds, ropes, fences, glass and security seperating you from the exotics. Getting a shot without any distractions in the background is nearly impossible. In this case I reverted to getting just a detail shot. Anyone who's ever seen a McLaren Mercedes SLR will surely recognise this one:

I'm still not perfectly happy with the result, but at least I feel the lighting is spot on. This, of course is just my opinion. Tell me what you think.

When in Rome...

I was lucky enough to be in Rome (for work) for a full 24 hours earlier this month. Of course I tried to see and do as much as possible in that time. My luck soon ran out though as I ended up in a hailstorm. Needless to say that ruined most opportunities for a good shot. This is part of what I managed to salvage. Mind you, without the "polaroid"-effect kindly provided by poladroid.net it sucked beyond words.
